Clubbing can do wonders

Claudia Schiffer was discovered at a nightclub in Düsseldorf, Germany, when she was 17. Michel Levanton, who spotted her, was the head of Metropolitan Model Agency and signed the young Schiffer as a model. By the way, one little-known fact about Claudia Schiffer is that at that time, she wanted to be a lawyer and work with her father.

Elite Models

An indisputable fact is that fate had big plans for Claudia Schiffer. So, shortly after signing with Metropolitan, the model met at the beach Patrick Lafontaine who put her in contact with Elite Model Agency in 1988. And the rest is history.

First cover

Just after finishing high school, Claudia Schiffer left her small German town Rheinberg, and went to Paris for a trial photoshoot. The trial was such a success she landed her first magazine cover, appearing on Elle Magazine’s cover.

Parisian freedom

In Paris, Claudia Schiffer felt free to express herself through fashion. She said she felt liberated to walk around in any clothes she wanted. Another interesting fact regarding her fashion style is that Claudia Schiffer preferred to dress as a boy when she was younger not to attract attention to her looks.

The Beauty and the Kaiser 

Thanks to her resemblance to the young Brigitte Bardot, she was the face of Guess in the early ’90s. Soon after, Claudia Schiffer became the muse of Karl Lagerfeld and was the face of Chanel for many years. She said that the German fashion designer “was my magic dust; he transformed me from a shy German girl into a supermodel.” In 2012, the supermodel posed once more for Guess to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary.

The Beauty and the Magician 

In 1993, the magician David Copperfield read her mind on stage and had her take part in his flying illusion act. The Beauty and the tacky magician were engaged the following year. During their 6-year engagement, La Schiffer appeared several times on stage as Copperfield’s assistant, being sawn in half, guillotined and so on. The fact was that there were many rumours about the engagement between Claudia Schiffer and Copperfield being a publicity stunt. And a magazine even published a “love contract” signed by the model, which was later proven in court to be fake.

The muse of Karl Lagerfeld is in the Guinness Book of Records for being the model with the most magazine covers. In fact, Claudia Schiffer appeared on more than one thousand covers during her modelling career.

The German model proves that the stereotype “pretty-blond- girls-are-dumb” is far from true. She speaks fluently German, French and English. She has also collaborated with brands such as Frame denim, French label Êtré Cecile, and Portuguese ceramics heritage brand Bordallo Pinheiro. Additionally, Schiffer appeared in several movies, including Zoolander, The Blackout and Love Actually, among others.

The Fashion Café 

Schiffer also fronted the Fashion Café with fellow supermodels Naomi Campbell, Elle McPherson and Christy Turlington in 1995. The international chain of restaurants was called the “couture version of the Hard Rock Café”. But, unfortunately, it didn’t last long because the founders of the restaurants of Claudia Schiffer, Tommaso and Francesco Buti were arrested for fraud and money laundering.

Comeback cover – in the nude

In 2019, the original supermodel of the ’90s made a comeback on the cover of Vogue Italia. The photo shows Schiffer naked, covering her private parts with a clutch and yellow pumps. She said, “25 years after my first encounter with the studio, I felt transported back to the Avedon days by photographer Collier Schorr“.

Schiffer and motherhood

The model married film director Matthew Vaughn – The King’s Man film series – in 2002. The couple has three children, Caspar Matthew, Clementine Poppy and Cosima Violet. She says motherhood has changed her and made her feel “this is what I’m all about.” They live in a mansion in Suffolk, England, where she was afraid because of the noises she used to hear during the night. But all is well since a medium came to check the fact and told Claudia Schiffer: “no need to be afraid; all the ghosts in the house are lovely.

Being one of the most beautiful women in the world and the original ’90s supermodel, Schiffer has had some stalkers arrested on her behalf. One of them believed the pope had told him to marry Claudia Schiffer.

But on other occasions, the police were called because of Schiffer’s dogs. That is because the model’s pets have bit the postman, attacked other dogs and even killed a pregnant sheep.
