Ariana Grande is the new face of Givenchy

Givenchy’s creative director, Claire Waight Keller, announced that singer Ariana Grande is the new face of the French fashion house. Before the announcement, the luxury French fashion house tried to create a little suspense on Instagram with short teasers showing Ariana’s silhouette with her signature ponytail and asking their almost 13m followers who she was.

Ariana Grande & Givenchy are a surprise match indeed. Givenchy has always been linked to big celebrities since the brand’s beginning. The legendary Hubert de Givenchy made for Audrey Hepburn (who called him “my best friend”) several of her unforgettable looks like the iconic little black dress she famously wore in the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. As a clear homage to the collaboration of Monsieur de Givenchy with the gorgeous Hepburn, Ariana Grande appears in the footage wearing a black dress and a headband with big white pearls, reminiscent of Hepburn’s LBD dress and fabulous pearl necklace designed by Roger Scemama for the opening scene of the 1961 romantic comedy. Coincidently (not), Grande sings “Breakfast at Tiffany’s and bottles with bubbles” in her song 7 Rings.

The Grammy-awarded singer, who will front Givenchy’s A/W2019 campaign, said “I am so proud to be the new face of Givenchy. It is a house that I have forever admired and to be part of that family is such an honour. I love this clothing and the confidence and joy it brings to the people wearing it.”

I wonder whether Hubert de Givenchy would also have seen Ariana Grande as a modern Audrey Hepburn. Why not?
