Astronaut boiler suits trend: as seen by Ryan Gosling´s movie First Man

I hope you saw “First Man”, the movie starring Ryan Gosling about the legendary space mission that turned the astronaut Neil Armstrong into the first man to walk on the Moon in 1969. Besides being a brilliant film, it is inspiring the latest fashion fever: the Astronaut boiler suits trend.

The ‘60s aesthetics boiler suits worn by Gosling in the movie are simply everywhere. You can see them in runways from Celine, Vetements, Stella McCartney, Dior, Alexa Chung and Dries van Noten. But also in many street-style photos from the most relevant fashion weeks. As an alternative to office suits, the Astronaut boiler suits trend comes in chic fabrics and colours, paired with sneakers or heels.

The future is comfortable

A little bit of boyfriend clothes, borrowed from the men’s wardrobe, Boiler suits have a loose fit; comfortable and flattering. It fits all types of bodies, and you can wear it day or night, depending on the accessories and shoes you are wearing. Choose a cool ankle boot to create an office outfit or killers high heels and sparkling jewellery at a party.

Take inspiration from Bianca Jagger and Co. who were already rocking their boilersuits at the disco Studio 54 in New York, in the ‘70s.

More astronaut and space travel inspirations

And we noticed that astronaut and space travel have inspired quite a lot of trends lately; besides the boiler suits, we are also seeing an invasion of silver and aluminium-like clothes, metallic silver boots, sandals and bags.

Even makeup is being abducted by space travel with the incredible aluminium and gold foil eye shadows. And the new perfume Candy Night by Prada makes us dream of starry nights and space travel with a bottle in beautiful colours that looks like a fascinating twilight sky.

I don’t know about you, but Frank and I are already singing “Fly Me to the moon and let me play among the stars” while I choose some fab new boiler suits.
