September is a special month that marks so many beginnings; autumn is approaching, back to school and New York Fashion Week SS23. What happens on the streets of The Big Apple and in the runways will set the fashion and style tone for the coming year. So if you’re a fashion lover like us, you’ll enjoy reading the fashion highlights from The City That Never Sleeps.

1- Carolina Herrera’s new flower power

In 1984, Carolina Herrera held a fashion show at The Plaza Hotel, New York. Thirty-eight years later, Wes Gordon, Carolina Herrera’s creative director, returns to the exact location to present SS2023 collection. Gordon presented a collection true to the brand’s DNA. What more represents Herrera than a striped shirt with a floral ball skirt? And speaking of flowers, Carolina Herrera SS23 woman is full of joy: she wears flowers as prints, embellished on the ball gowns and flowers as accessories. In the words of Wes Gordon, “The key is just to embrace making beautiful, happy clothes and not apologize for that. That sense of joy is what our clients come to us for.”

2- The 25 years of Fendi Baguette

In 1997, Silvia Venturini Fendi created the first it-bag in history: the Fendi Baguette bag. The name is inspired by a baguette because you wear it under the arm. Twenty-five years later, the current creative director of the Italian house, Kim Jones, celebrated the Jubilee of The Baguette in New York. He has chosen NY to paying tribute to the series “Sex And The City”, responsible for making the bag popular in the 2000s. Who saw the fashion show must have noticed that the actress from the TV series, Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw, was in the front row. The SS23 version of the baguette bag is a collaboration between Fendi and Delfina Delettrez (daughter of Silvia Fendi and creative director of accessories for the Italian brand), with Marc Jacobs and Tiffany and Co. Moreover, the event marked the return to the catwalks of Linda Evangelista, the top model of the 90s.

3- Proenza Schouler’s fringe

Opening the New York Fashion Week SS23, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of luxury label Proenza Schouler got inspired by Hernandez’s Latin roots.
Proenza Schouler’s show was opened by Venezuelan artist Arca, followed by top Kendall Jenner parading the brand’s bet for summer 2023: fringes. Whether in the crochet dress or applications on the blazer, fringes will have a triumphant return this season. The models wore their hair slicked back wet, and their skin was dewy, and in the background of the catwalk, we saw images of waterfalls, stressing that the woman who wears Proenza Schouler is above all connected with Mother Earth.
“We’re just talking about the idea of energy, of joy, of sensuality; these things that sometimes we feel are lost in our lives, to be honest, and we’re trying to find a way to get them back,” McCollough said.

4- Altuzarra’s tie-dyed trip

Joseph Altuzarra showed his new SS23 collection at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in New York City. The industrial modernism architecture, built in 1931, was the perfect location to set the background for a collection that invokes a journey from the city to a magical desert. Altazurra’s show begins with outfits consisting of mini skirts, striped shirts, cable sweaters and jackets, so very preppy looks. As the collection progresses, it travels to a destination full of tie-dye, coin embroidered details and prints that resemble African patterns. And in this part of the collection, Altazurra woman finds summer, the richness of craftsmanship and the mix of cultures. Like a spiritual journey.

5- NYFW Street Style

It is still summer in Gotham. And the high temperatures welcomed over 100 brands showing their collections for the upcoming summer of 2023. New York has been reborn for fashion with full vigour after a few seasons when influential designers dared to decree Los Angeles as the new capital of American fashion.
