Jil Sander nostalgic collab with Uniqlo: +J is coming back Refined minimalism.

Excellent news for minimalist fashion lovers; the iconic Jil Sander is coming back this fall in a new collab with Uniqlo. After an 11-year hiatus, the German fashion designer returns to the Japanese retailer to restart her Uniqlo +J, which existed from 2009 to 2011.

Perfect timing

Known for her minimalist style and refined understatement, Jil Sander collab with Uniqlo comes with perfect timing. As said before, Coronavirus has brought several changes in the way we dress. Among these changes is our desire to wear comfortable clothes that are timeless and long-lasting. Jil Sander’s signature elegance and unfussy designs, and Uniqlo’s affordable prices are a match made in heaven. Together, they will bring classic staples for men and women that won’t break the bank; just what we need amidst a pandemic.

What can we expect from Uniqlo +J?

So far, the Japanese brand hasn’t given much information about the new Jil Sander collab collection with Uniqlo. But knowing the iconic designer and Uniqlo +J, we hope to see plenty of sleek numbers with androgynous silhouettes for women of all ages. For example, her famous masculine shirts, cuffed pants, boxy coats and chic trenchcoats. Sander says she can sense today “a need for contemporary sophistication”. And who better than the German fashion designer to give us sophisticated and contemporary clothes?

Jil Sander capturing the present moment

In an interview by Uniqlo, Jil Sander explains that the Bauhaus architecture had an influence on her perspective as a student. She stated, “I felt justified in my instincts to reduce and concentrate on well-executed, pure forms.” The designer has always created leaving all unnecessary decorations out and concentrating on contemporary shapes and materials. In this way, she hopes to capture the essence of the current moment as it unfolds.

The white shirt

Sander is the queen of the white shirt (she has around one hundred in her wardrobe). The minimalist designer explains that periodical revisions of the white shirt are “echoes of a changing zeitgeist. You have to refresh a classic like the white shirt all the time”. This is why we’re looking forward to getting our hands on Jil Sander and Uniqlo +J fall/winter 2020 shirts as soon as they are out.

Jil Sander collab with Uniqlo, +J, is expected to hit the shops mid-fall. We’re counting the days.
