Just a 5-step routine – healthy and glowing skin during summer

Just like me, my friends enjoy the summer and the sun to the last drop. After all, we only have three months a year to fill the tanks with vitamin D, melatonin and calcium. And most of my friends want to finish summer beautifully tanned. So much so, that some of them travel on holiday with a guaranteed appointment in September to see a dermatologist for an anti-spot treatment. However, even removing the sun spots on the face, the problems of over-exposure to solar radiation are inevitable. For sure, the laser treatment does diminish the spots, but the damage that UV rays cause to the skin has already been done in the deepest layers of the epidermis.  You have to decide if you want a healthy and glowing skin during summer or a tanned one.

And if my summer skincare ritual works for me, it will work for you as well. With just a 5-step routine you can have healthy and glowing skin during summer, and the rest of the year as well.

Step by Step – Healthy and glowing skin

  • 1- Of course, you’ve heard the expression ‘ you are what you eat ’. But you are what you drink too. And especially in summer, sun and sweat dehydrate your skin. So drinking 2 litres of water a day should be a staple of your beauty routine. Drinking fluid keeps your cells hydrated, and the effect is plump and radiant skin.

  • 2- Keeping your skin clean is very important. Sweat and humidity can lead to bacterial infections, as they close your pores. For that, choose a gentle cleanser that keeps your skin’s natural barrier intact.

  • 3- My secret is to use a serum with vitamin C after cleansing. Ascorbic acid is a powerful antioxidant that protects against harmful free radicals and UV exposure. Besides that, vitamin C avoids hyperpigmentation and gives a special glow. Therefore, combined with sunscreen, vitamin C creates extra protection against the damaging effects of the sun.

  • 4- After the serum has penetrated the skin, apply the moisturising cream. As we are talking about summer and high temperatures, choose a hydrating moisturiser lightweight.  Let’s already know that hydration happens from the inside out when you drink enough liquids. But also from outside to inside, with the cream protecting the skin’s natural barrier to retain moisture.

  • 5- Finally, apply high SPF. We all know by now, that UVA and UVB rays can lead to skin cancer and premature ageing. So choose an SPF cream of at least 30, ideally 50, and with a broad spectrum. But even so, to get total protection, you should spread half a teaspoon of the product on your face. I also use the two-finger measurement, which is to put the product from the beginning to the end of your index and middle finger and use that amount from both fingers on your face and neck. But please, choose a good SPF cream that has a light consistency and is well absorbed by your skin. That way, you won’t look like a Japanese kabuki actor.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that you reapply sunscreen cream every 2 hours. Also, after the summer, you should continue to use SPF in the city and even at work, in front of the computer. This way, you guarantee healthy and glowing skin.
