Spring/Summer 22 popular trends: what will we wear next season? 10 trends.

If you want to get a head start on shopping what fashion designers have in store for Spring/Summer 22, here is the place. We’ve reviewed the most relevant fashion shows of the SS22 season, and we’ve identified 10 trends that will be popular next season. And most important, wearable trends. From playful silhouettes to bright colours to B&W, from Roaring ’20s to bohemian ’60s, and from classic to futuristic; fashion enthusiasts will undoubtedly have a blast in 2022.

1- Micro skirts

Mini skirts come shorter for Spring/Summer 22, so get ready for the micro skirt trend. After following so many TikTok fitness trends, the preppy micro skirts at Chanel, Fendi by Versace, and Miu Miu fashion shows give you the perfect excuse to show off your toned legs. Mini-Mini Skirts will be popular among young girls.

2- Polished Bermuda shorts

Short trend for spring/summer 22.

Bermuda shorts are the heroes of warm days, but they come polished and structured next year. As seen on the runway, Hermès, Dior, Fendi, Tom Ford, and Max Mara embraced the tailored short Spring/Summer 22 trend, presenting them with matching blazers and chic trench coats. In the same vein, Jason Wu, Valentino, Brandon Maxwell, and Adam Lippes created elegant ensembles; you can wear from the office to a party. We believe Bermuda shorts will be a strong trend, being a modern option for skirts.

3- ‘80s blazer, the bigger, the better

From what we saw at Fashion Week Spring/Summer 22, the popular oversized blazer trend is here for the long run. Prada, Chanel, and The Row were some of the fashion houses sending models down the catwalk in extra-large jackets. Louis Vuitton, Raf Simmons, Phillip Lim, Peter Do, and Coach seem to agree, presenting voluminous silhouettes. Additionally, the most popular trend of the ’80s, the blazer with statement shoulders, also comes with a cinched waist for Spring/Summer 22.  Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen created exaggerated puffy sleeves with a ’40s feminine hourglass silhouette. And power blazers came with bold structured shoulders at Saint Laurent and Versace shows too. You will wear them as a power suit, with skirts but also as a mini dress. Why is it wearable and popular? This oversize silhouette is flattering when you want to hide some belly & tummy fat without losing coolness.

4- Extra-wide trousers

Comfort is the Mot du Jour, so it’s only natural that we saw extra-wide pants on the Summer/Spring 22 runway in tandem with the oversized blazer trend. And there’s more. The Row, Ulla Johnson, Phillip Lim, and Alberta Ferretti styled extra-wide trousers with roomy blouses and slouchy coats; thus creating flowing looks. Extra-wide pants immediately create a sophisticated look and are perfect for hot weather.

5- Bohemian crochet and psychedelic prints

Crochet is one of the hot trends for next season.
Clockwise from top left: Paco Rabanne, Stella McCartney, Gabriela Hearst, Marine Serre.

Crochet has reigned for some seasons now. And, as soon as spring is back, so will this bohemian ’60s trend. Paco Rabanne dressed his models from head to toe in crochet. Chloé presented tops that end in long fringes while Jil Sander and Marine Serre showed crochet dresses with an artisanal feel. But we also felt the ’60s and ’70s hippies influence in psychedelic prints with vibrant colours at Etro, Givenchy, and Gabriela Hearst. Bohemian crochet and psychedelic prints are ageless and will be certainly popular trends in 2022,

6- ’60s skirt suits

Besides the hippies, we had Jackie Kennedy-style skirt suits in the ’60s in many Spring/Summer 2022 fashion shows. Dior, Moschino, and Michael Kors brought these preppy jacket-and-skirt ensembles back for the next season. That’s a genuinely new look for SS22. Paired them with platform heels, big earrings and structured bags to a funkier look.

7- Space tourism

Silver is a popular trend for spring/summer 22.
Clockwise from top left: Balenciaga, Christopher Kane, Courrèges.

Inspired by the space tourism trend, Courrèges, Balenciaga, and Loewe imagined for Spring/Summer 22 futuristic looks in silver that Barbarella would have approved. From evening dresses to raincoats, silver garments with a sci-fi vibe will be everywhere next season. Why it will be popular? Because the shine won’t be exclusive for party clothes, but for everyday looks.

8- Black & White

Classic and timeless, you can never go wrong with the black and white combo. Nevertheless, designers like Marni, Carolina Herrera, and Balenciaga revisited the contrasting colours with modern graphic prints. Missoni, Tory Burch, Comme des Garçcons, and Schiaparelli also adopted the popular B&W trend with stripes and polka dots for Spring/Summer 22. It’s classic, ageless and easy to wear on the days you are out of styling ideas.

9- Roaring ‘20s fringes

Fringed looks in the Roaring '20s style.

You read it here before; the Roaring Twenties are back. So, nothing’s better to celebrate spring/summer 22 than the popular fringe trend. Luxury fashion houses like Christian Dior, Armani, Oscar de la Renta, and Ferragamo had models sashaying down the SS2022 catwalk wearing fringed dresses and skirts in the best 1920s Jazz Era style. We also saw fringes at Chloe, Paco Rabanne, and Proenza Schouler. We see this trend becoming popular because in 2022 we’ll want to party, to dance, we want to shake the bad vibes away.

10- White on white

The colour-block looks and sorbet hues will be present in Spring/Summer 2022, but almost all designers have all-white outfits in their collections. From dresses to suits, white monochrome was the choice of Gabriela Hearst, Christopher Kane, Peter Do, Brunello Cucinelli, Chanel, and Ulla Johnson. Why do we like it? It’s optimistic, associated with natural materials and pureness. The all-white combination is chic and minimalist, as we want our life to be in the Spring/Summer of 2022.
