Armani, Chiara Ferragni and Coronavirus What's fashion doing against COVID-19

Some names in the fashion world have stood out lately because of what they’re doing against Coronavirus.

The virus that is causing disruption in the world, has affected fashion too, hitting hard luxury fashion houses that have already lost billions. Even so, many companies from the luxury sector are donating millions to combat the pandemic. 

When Giorgio Armani cancelled his A/W 2020 runway show during Milano Fashion Week because of Coronavirus, many thought it was a bit excessive. It turns out Armani was absolutely right to do so. He was the first one to foresee, at that time, how serious the risk of infection really was.

The Italian luxury designer has donated 1.25 million Euros to various Italian hospitals and institutions treating those infected by COVID-19.

Chiara Ferragni

The influencer Chiara Ferragni and her husband, the rapper Fedez, are using their online presence to help increase awareness not only in Italy but also in other countries too. Ferragni called out those who are minimising the virus, calling it “just flu”, like for example Kendall Jenner, with whom she modelled for Giambattista Valli and H&M collab collection. The Italian influencer is urging her 18.7m followers on Instagram to stay home. She has also organised with her husband a Go Fund Me campaign, raising so far, over 4 million Euros for hospitals in Italy, including their own 100,000 Euro donation.

LVMH

The giant corporation LVMH has pledged to donate 2.78 million Euros to support the fight against the fast-spreading virus. The donation went to the Chinese Red Cross to help with the shortage of medical supplies.

Kering

The luxury conglomerate has donated 1 million to the Red Cross Society of China. Kering owns, among other, Gucci, Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen.

Swarovski

The Austrian Swarovski donated around 530.000 Euros to help fight against Coronavirus.

Versace

Versace donated almost 130,000 Euros to the Chinese Red Cross Foundation that is facing shortage of medical supplies.

Hermès

The French Hermès is helping with around 700,000 Euros the welfare organization Soong Ching Ling Foundation and its professionals fighting the virus in China.

Dolce & Gabbana

The Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana reported they are supporting with their donation, the research professors are carrying out at the Humanities University in Italy, to fight the virus.

Bulgari

Bulgari is another Italian brand that has donated to help researchers.  The jewellery house’s donation helped the research department of the Istituto Lazzaro Spallanzani acquire a microscopic image acquisition system, among other things.
