The fashion show circus has just left New York, where 97 fashion brands unveiled their Fall/Winter 2024-2025 collections. We’ve sifted through all the runways and presentations from this latest New York Fashion Week AW24 to bring you a summary of the trends you’ll want to adopt for the upcoming season. Leggings Are Back
We’ve already dedicated an entire article to how Instagram fashionistas are rocking leggings this spring. According to the collections from Sandy Lang, Bevza, Altuzarra, and Sonia Rykiel, leggings are set to stay hot through the fall.
Checks, Yet Again
If you’ve invested in a checked pair of trousers or a coat this winter, keep them close at hand in your wardrobe. Fashion designers like Thom Browne, Helmut Lang, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs have reserved a special spot for checks in their collections. After all, checks are classic, carry heritage, and scream winter.
Leather
We’re already embracing leather jackets, skirts, dresses, and trousers this spring of 2024, as we mentioned in our SS24 trends article. But the love for this natural material will also extend into the Fall/Winter season. Fashion brands like Coach, Michael Kors, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and Khaite are betting on jackets with a pilot or motorcycle vibe. However, leather is also being used as a sophisticated material in super feminine looks, as seen in Ulla Johnson, Gabriela Hearst, Tory Burch, and Retrofête collections.
Ikea Blue
Expect to see some colour repeats for Fall/Winter 2024. If you’ve been shopping for colours like grey, beige, off-white, black, brown, and red, you’re on the right track. But what emerged from Tory Burch’s runway was a strong and vibrant blue, which we’re dubbing “Ikea blue” (think of the Ikea bag). This shade will break the monotony of grey, beige, and brown. Although not part of New York Fashion Week AW24, the French brand Patou also showcased this blue in its collection.
Get a Pair of Gloves
Fashion brands like Khaite, Altuzarra, Kobi Halperin, and Alejandra Alonso Rojas introduced long gloves made of leather or cashmere. Try a Retro Look
We saw many looks inspired by the ’80s and fewer by the 2000s. However, fashion brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Sandy Lang, Michael Kors, and Kobi Halperin presented a style reminiscent of the ’60s, evoking memories of Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn. Go-go boots, A-line dresses, minis, short hair, and big sunglasses are some keywords for this trend.
Long Coats
Fluffy coats remain relevant, and the trench coat style will be on top. We’ll also see hunting coats and capes. But what they all have in common is their length; besides being voluminous, these coats are long, reaching down to the ankle. This trend was visible on the runways of Brandon Maxwell, Bevza, Coach, and Jason Wu.
Ladylike
Instead of dressing women in masculine suits, designers have surrendered to the femininity of skirt suits. Tory Burch, Sandy Laing, Michael Kors, and Bevza presented looks that are both super elegant and sexy. The novelty lies in the length of the skirts, either four fingers above or right at the knee.
Golden Times
Gold gains even more momentum this Fall/Winter, with nearly all designers showcasing at least one gold look in their collections. We’ve selected for you a simple and modern dress from Proenza Schouler, something surreal from Gabriela Hearst, as well as pieces from Ulla Johnson and AKNVAS.
Leopard Print
Did you read our article on the Mob Wife trend? That explains why leopard print will be present this spring and into the next fall/winter. Michael Kors and Batsheva showcased animal print at New York Fashion Week, but French brands like Balenciaga, AZ Factory, and Alaïa also embraced the animal glamour.
