Red Carpet in pandemic times: the best looks at the 2020 Venice Film Festival.

The oldest and chicest film festival, the Venice Film Festival, is taking place despite COVID-19. The scaled-down pandemic red carpet festival feels like a mini-Venice, with fewer international stars and parties. But so far, the first festival since the pandemic started has offered us plenty of fantastic red carpet looks, even with the mandatory masks and social distancing. Check next, the best looks at the 77th Venice Festival.

Tilda Swinton

As usual, among the best and most striking looks at Venice Festival were worn by the British actress Tilda Swinton. She wore a black-and-white ruffled outfit and a coat-dress with floral embroideries and standing collar, both looks by Chanel. But the highlight of her pandemic red carpet outfits was a golden hand-held mask. The custom-made art piece was created by James Merry, a British artist who lives near Reykjavík and has made masks for Bjork, besides co-creating her tours and album covers since 2009.

Cate Blanchet

Two of our favourite looks at the 77th Venice Film Festival were from the president of the jury, Cate Blanchet. Elegant as always with her signature monochrome makeup, the Australian actress chose to dial down her usual glam power and wore pants for the pandemic red carpet festival. Even so, she looked absolutely glamorous and elegant. The actress broke the red carpet unwritten rules by wearing again old outfits! For the opening ceremony, she wore the 2016 Esteban Cortazar “Stingray” gown she had already appeared in five years ago. She also recycled an Alexander McQueen dress she wore in 2016 by wearing the top part with black trousers. Sustainability is trendier than ever.

Mélita Toscan du Plantier

Director of the Marrakech Film Festival, Mélita Toscan du Plantier is as elegant as it gets, in two black looks with lace. The pant outfits she wore during the Venice Film Festival prove that trousers can be as sexy as dresses, if not more.

Nicole Garcia

The director of Amants attended the photocall of her movie in a relaxed yet elegant look; a B&W Gingham shirt combined with tailored trousers. For the pandemic red carpet outfit, she chose a sleek suit paired with a crisp white shirt.

Lotte Verbeek

The beautiful red-headed actress wore a grey Alberta Ferretti gown embellished with rhinestones on the pandemic red carpet at the opening night of the film festival. But we also loved the minimalist Prada red dress she paired with white pumps and diva sunglasses for the opening of the Critic’s Week. The amazing floral dress is also Prada.

Stacy Martin

Stacy Martin looked effortlessly chic in a navy and white look from Louis Vuitton Resort 2021 collection. The white cape and ankle boots gave her LBD a contemporary touch.

The actress also wore a belted black and white dress by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton with hand-sewn embroidery and leather straps to the premiere of Amants, directed by Nicole Garcia.

Amira Casar

With a retro-style look, Amira Casar wore a green jacquard dress by the Spanish fashion house, Loewe. She completed the outfit with a statement pendant necklace.

She chose two Loewe looks for the pandemic red carpet events. Both outfits are on our list of best looks at the Venice Festival. She donned a dress with patchwork effect for the photocall at the “Giornate degli Autori”. You may want to read more bout the patchwork trend the actress wore for the pandemic red carpet photocall.

Natasha Andrews

Another black and white look on the pandemic red carpet. Natasha Andrews looked stunning in a Dior gown. The actress thanked on Instagram Dior, among others, for turning her into a princess. We agree; what a dress!

Prada and Miu Miu

And finally, we can’t talk about Venice Film Festival without mention Miuccia Prada and her labels Prada and Miu Miu. The Italian designer is not only contributing to the chicest red carpet of the film industry, but she is also an important Maecenas. Miu Miu Women’s Tales, a series of short films have been celebrated in Venice since 2015. And here are the Prada and Miu Miu looks from the last 77th Venice Film Festival.
