Since we cannot travel to faraway exotic places because of the coronavirus pandemic, we selected our favourite places to spend the summer in Austria. And of course, we’re already mentally packing our suitcases and looking forward to the fab looks we’re going to wear!

Lighthouse and Windsurf
If you like to sunbathe while admiring a fabulous view (tanned windsurfers included), Podersdorf am See is the place for you. The town and its cute lighthouse are located directly by the Neusiedler See, a ginormous lake that covers 320 km2. In fact, it is the largest lake in Central Europe, extending from Austria to Hungary. Enjoy sailing, kitesurfing and stand-up-paddling, or just relax looking glam in your Vichy swimsuits and dresses.
On the Rax with Freud and Frankl
If you need some fresh air during the hot summer, do as Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl. Take Austria’s first aerial cableway and go up to the Rax plateau on the Viennese Alps. The cableway goes from Reichenau an der Rax to the summit at 1546 m above sea level. Reichenau became a chic summer resort for the Viennese nobility in the 18th Century. There, you’ll see Archduke Charles Louis’ Villa Wartholz, where Otto von Habsburg was born, and the Rothschild’s Hinterleiten Palace. Every year, there are more than 110 events at the Reichenau Festival and the Wartholz literary competition. No wonder Reichenau is a must for fans of theatre and literature. So, pack your hiking boots to spend the days in the forest. But also take some kaftans and minimalist shirtdresses to mingle with the cool crowd in the evenings.
Monte Carlo in Austria
Wörthersee is the largest lake in Carinthia, on the foothills of the Gurktal Alps. When the Velden Castle was transformed into a hotel, in 1890, it became the summer destination of royalty and celebrities. With its blue-green water that can reach 25 oC and Mediterranean climate, Wörthersee is known as Austria’s Monte Carlo. Pack swimsuits, a chic LBD, floral dresses and espadrilles. And don’t forget the sunglasses and diva hat.
Waterfall and the mermaid
Lake Attersee is located in the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria. It is said that the mermaid Adhara once lived there and used to give the residents gold and gems. Because of their increasing greed, the mermaid hid behind the wonderful waterfall, called, very appropriately, the Mermaid Fall. Gustav Klimt was one of the famous Attersee habitués and made several paintings of the beautiful lake and surrounding landscape. Before him, Emperor Franz Joseph spent every summer there, in Lederhosen, of course. The traditional Dirndls are still part of daily life in the Ausserland-Salzkammergut. The typical Ausseer Dirndl consists of a green bodice, a pink skirt and a lilac apron. Pack some Dirndl-inspired looks. And add a twist by pairing the romantic outfit with chunky sneakers or contemporary ballerinas. Add a statement chain necklace; a must in 2020.
