Throughout her tenure, she helped to establish Coco Mademoiselle as one of the most popular and recognisable perfumes in the world. Now in a marketing twist, Chanel has chosen Whitney Peak as the new face of Coco Mademoiselle. The actress from the reboot of the Gossip Girl series is the first black woman to be the face of a Chanel perfume. But the story of Whitney Peak and Coco Mademoiselle began a few years ago.
Whitney Peak and Chanel, a love story.
In 2021, the 20-year-old Ugandan-Canadian actress was appointed Chanel’s Ambassador to the US market. A year later, Whitney Peak starred as the muse of the 22-bag campaign alongside Lily-Rose Depp and Margaret Qualley. And in 2023, she was chosen as the new face of the fragrance named after the incomparable Coco Chanel. According to the actress of Hocus Pocus 2 by Anne Fletcher, “Honestly, I never dreamed I’d get the attention of such a reputable house, let alone the pleasure of working with and representing it.”
According to Chanel’s statement, “Peak’s joy, spirit, and energy are contagious. She is the embodiment of today’s youth whose curiosity, confidence in life, appetite for experiences and lack of preconceptions echo the temperament of the young Coco Chanel.”
Do not leave home without your perfume
I identify entirely with the way Whitney Peak relates to perfume. In the words of the actress herself, “When I’m complete, I can fully give myself.” And she adds, “I can be fully vulnerable; I can be open and accepting. If you’re going to leave the house and give yourself to everybody, I think you should always feel very complete. My fragrance is the perfect ‘complete’.”
