Why you need a fringe jacket this fall

The fringe trend has been all over the catwalks since last year. From Givenchy and Fendi to Max Mara, Tom Ford and Proenza Schouler, every designer’s added fringes in their collections, whether on jackets, dresses or handbags. Fringes and cowboy boots are a big trend still popular this fall. We’ve seen the Wild West theme not only during Fashion Week and on Instagram but also in the streets.

Fringes are fun; they can be funky or dramatic. We especially like jackets with fringes swaying back and forth as we walk; they are statement pieces that will update any outfit.

The most obvious way to wear fringes is on a  suede jacket, paired with jeans and cowboy boots. Watch Toy Story 3 if you need some inspiration for your western look. But you can find fringe jackets in the most varied styles and materials; leather, denim, wool, embellished with studs or logos, you name it.

Second-hand shops are excellent places to get vintage and previously-owned designer jackets. Here are the best second-hand shops in Vienna and online to go fringe-jacket hunting.

Boho Vibe

Very ’70s, beige suede jackets are easy-to-wear and bring instant boho-chicness to your look. If you don’t want to wear leather, there are plenty of fake leather jackets on the market too. Western Chic

These leather jackets with fringes add glam and can be worn over dresses or paired with jeans or dressier trousers. Layer your jacket over shirts, pullovers and turtlenecks, which are, by the way, one of the mini-trends of this season. See here how to look stylish in a turtleneck.

Easy Rider

Biker jackets with fringes are as cool as it gets; think Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper in the ’70s cult movie Easy Rider.

Red and Layering

You like fringes but still want to wear wool or denim? Here are the jackets for you; a red classic cut jacket with fringe detail or this Balenciaga that gives the impression you’re wearing a sweatshirt and a jeans jacket layered under your biker.

Logomania

Rejoice, die-hard fans of the logomania trend, Fendi has some fabulous biker jackets with long dramatic fringes for you.
