Colours, prints and shimmer, why not?

In the late ’60s, the musician performed in London in the best Jimi Hendrix style: clashing bright colours and multi-prints, and added to the mix, a jacket with shimmering embroidery. Looking closely, you’ll see that Jimi Hendrix’s style is far from chaotic. On the contrary, he used to choose the colours carefully. The printed shirt has green, matching the lime pants, and purple, that goes with the scarf worn as a belt. Around the neck, he wears a turquoise pendant necklace in the same tone as his jacket, which reminds me of this Gucci blazer. The result is simply fantastic.

Statement sleeves and vest

There’s been a revival of the bourgeois vest lately, and this garment was one of Jimi Hendrix’s style staples. He wore vests quite often, for example, at the ’69 Royal Albert Hall show in London. The guitar king pairs his purple vest with a shirt with statement sleeves in orange tones, one of the fashion colour trends for fall 2020. Additionally, the die-dye shirt that was everywhere in that time, is a big street-style trend this year too.

Vest and frills

Jimi Hendrix best style moments must include, of course, a purple shirt with frills, the signature fashion staple of ’70s. At at the Newport Pop Festival, California, in 1969, Hendrix completed his look with a blue sky vest. By the way, this colour is one of the trends that emerged from the streets of Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Velvet on velvet

Lush velvet was a must in the ’70s fashion and in Jimi Hendrix’s style. Posing for a portrait in 1967, Hendrix wears a midnight blue velvet suit with matching silk satin shirt and scarf. Don’t you just love how Hendrix’s stylish outfit matches perfectly the colour of the couch? Somehow, I can see Harry Styles, the face of Gucci, rocking now a similar velvet jacket and pants suit.

Tailoring with a twist

Jimi Hendrix’s style also included classic tailoring pieces, but with a twist. His elegantly cut jacket comes with bold flowers, and he combines it with a clashing printed shirt. The iconic guitar player wears this funky look to receive the Radio One DJ Jimmy Savile award in 1967.

Double florals

Mixing prints was not a problem for the stylish musician. In fact, one of Jimi Hendrix best style moments was this floral-on-floral look. He wore a B&W floral jacket with a white and blue floral shirt for a show at Kensington Gardens in 1970.

Jimi Hendrix rocks his favourite gold-embroidered vest at a concert. He pairs it with a white ruffled shirt, a scarf tied around his neck and colour-block striped pants. An über-cool and stylish look, perfect for this season.
